Meet Our Coaching Staff
Royal Tabaldo
Born and raised in Sunnyvale, CA, Royal Tabaldo has built a remarkable reputation in wrestling, both as a competitor and a coach. His athletic journey began with Jiu-Jitsu, but his hunger for competition led him through a variety of sports, including baseball, swimming, flag football, judo, and basketball. However, it wasn’t until he saw a flyer for his middle school wrestling team tryouts that he found his true passion.
Despite attending Peterson Middle School, Royal trained under CIF State Champion Greg Crane while wrestling for Cabrillo Middle School, gaining a deep understanding of technical mastery and strategic execution. Crane’s methodical approach to wrestling fundamentals helped shape Royal’s mat IQ, work ethic, and ability to break down complex techniques—skills that would later become the foundation of his coaching philosophy.
Royal continued to refine his skills at Wilcox High School before transferring to Evergreen Valley High School, a move that allowed him to elevate his training and exposure to tougher competition. His relentless pursuit of growth earned him a wrestling scholarship at Menlo College, where he majored in Business Marketing and competed at the collegiate level. During this time, Royal also had the privilege of training under three-time CIF State Champion Jacob Palomino, another brilliant mind in the sport whose innovative approach to technique further sharpened Royal’s abilities.
While competing in college, Royal discovered his true calling—coaching. He began assisting at Menlo-Atherton High School, where his sister, Coach Kiely Tabaldo, wrestled. His coaching played a pivotal role in helping her win the CIF state title, proving his ability to develop champions through a calculated and structured training system. Eventually, Royal took over the Menlo-Atherton program, applying everything he had learned from over a dozen high-level coaches to build a culture of excellence.
With 13 years of competitive wrestling experience, Royal has trained with the Mexican national team, attended top-tier camps and tournaments across California, and absorbed elite-level techniques from state and national champions. Though he may not have accumulated numerous personal accolades as a wrestler, his coaching expertise, wrestling IQ, and deep technical knowledge have set him apart as one of the most respected coaches in the Bay Area.
Now, as the head coach of Royalty Wrestling Club, Royal is focused on developing the next generation of champions. His ability to break down techniques, instill confidence, and refine every athlete’s approach to the sport makes him a game-changing mentor. With an unmatched dedication to his athletes, Royal is proving that great wrestlers may win titles—but great coaches build legacies.
